LCDR Weltz has served 3 decades in the Navy as both an enlisted EOD operator, and then as a Special Operations Officer (EOD), with his final tour of duty at United States Special Operations Command, where he was a member of the Command Parachute team. He has served in both Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as numerous other areas of conflict including; Africa, Balkans, and in the Middle East. He is the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal for wound received in combat. He was medically retired in November 2013 after a Parachute training accident. He is currently serves as the Senior Vice Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, JFK Chapter 1963 in Dunedin, Florida.

In 2000 he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Maryland, and a Masters of Forensic Science in 2008 from National University, and was commissioned in July of 2000 as a Special Operations Officer (EOD). He is a graduate of Western Michigan University, Cooley Law School, holds a PhD in Anthropology.
His tours include; USS Niagara Falls (AFS-3), USS Pioneer (MCM-9), EOD DET Adak AK, EODMU 8 Sigonella, IT, EODMU 8 DET Rota, SP. Assigned to both 3rd, 7th&10th Special Forces Groups. VSW MCM DET Coronado, CA, EODMU 2, and Seal Team 8 in VA BCH, VA, NAVSCOLEOD, EGLIN AFB, FL, CCSG 3 Bremerton WA, US Special Operations Command J53/J3X Counter Terrorism Special Plans in Tampa FL.
He has completed Combat tours and deployments in The Persian Gulf, Somalia, Bosnia, Rwanda, South America, North Africa, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, Baghdad, Iraq. Personnel Awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation (4th) Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal (2nd) Army Achievement Medal, and Numerous Campaign, and Service medals.
LCDR Weltz is married to Lori Weltz who is also a Disabled Combat Veteran from the Gulf War, and their oldest son Collin is currently serving in the US Army’s 173rd Airborne Unit Overseas, and their daughters Ashley who attends University of Vermont, and Kristen who attends Florida Gulf Coast University.
